Ways To Give
Your contribution to the Foundation’s endowment will enable us to increase the number of financial scholarships we award to students. The Foundation welcomes your participation and support. Your individual contribution of any size or kind will help us achieve our goal of doubling our endowment to increase the number of scholarships and level of award.
There are a variety of ways to give to the Foundation depending on what makes the most sense for you.
General Donation of Cash
Gifts of any amount will help us increase our endowment and ability to assist students. Gifts can be made to: Thousand Islands Foundation, c/o Northern New York Community Foundation, 131 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.
A donation of stock that has been held for longer than one year.
A pledge of a specific dollar amount over a period of months or years.
Charitable Bequests are the simplest and most common type of planned gift. A bequest is easy to set up when added to your will or living trust. Example language could read:
“I give and bequeath___________________ (percentage, stated dollar amount, or asset) of my estate to the Northern New York Community Foundation, Inc., Watertown, New York subject to its governing instruments, policies and procedures, as amended from time to, and to be directed to the Thousand Islands Foundation, an affiliate, component fund of the Northern New York Community Foundation, Inc. I request the Northern New York Community, Inc. use the eligible earnings of the gift for the Thousand Island Foundation’s __________________ (greatest needs, scholarships, unrestricted support).”
Charitable Gift Annuities and Charitable Remainder Trusts
These are methods of continuing to receive income during your lifetime/lifetime of your beneficiaries while simultaneously leaving a legacy with the Northern New York Community Foundation for the Thousand Islands Foundation.
Retained Life Estates
This enables you to make a gift of your residence while retaining full use and rights to the property during your lifetime.
One of the simplest ways to make a significant contribution is to give a life insurance policy to the Thousand Islands Foundation. You may name the Foundation as the beneficiary of an existing policy or take out a new policy.
Planned giving is a highly specialized area. Before implementing and charitable gift planning strategy, please consult your personal financial advisor and/or estate planning advisors.
